Veto reform: report and WFM Views on ACT non-paper

21 May 2015

A "non-paper" on the initiative to restraint the UN Security Council veto.

The World Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy (WFM-IGP) helped organize a meeting on April 30 between civil society organizations and the ACT (Accountability, Coherence, Transparency) subgroup on the Veto to discuss the “(Draft) Non-Paper on a Code of Conduct regarding Security Council action against genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes“. Over 20 NGOs represented at UNHQ in NY attended the meeting at the Mission of Liechtenstein chaired by Amb. Wenaweser.

This ACT subgroup addresses issues of ‘accountability’ and the ‘veto’. The non-paper is supported by Austria, Costa Rica, Estonia, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Uruguay. Many of these governments were represented at the April 30 meeting.

Report of the meeting and the views on the Draft Non-Paper by WFM-IGP is available here.
