The first workshop for 20 MPs and Senators will take place in Yamoussoukro from June 8-9, 2021.

This campaign launched on March 9, 2021 with the Armed Forces and now for the benefit of the National Assembly aims to increase prevention capacity in Africa and beyond through the dissemination and appropriation of the Manual on Best Practices the Establishment and Management of National Mechanisms for Genocide and Mass Atrocities Prevention elaborated by the GAAMAC Africa Working Group.

West Africa has seen its share of mass atrocities. In the current post-conflict context, Côte d’Ivoire is strengthening its efforts and aims to use legislation as a means to combat such crimes and to prevent the risk of atrocities by drawing on models from the countries of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.

The workshop will inform newly elected deputies and senators about the basic concepts of human rights and international humanitarian law, national mechanisms for the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities, and the rules and principles of international criminal justice.

The opening session on June 8 will be attended by senior representatives of the Republican Guard and the Prefectural Corps as well as the Vice President of the GAAMAC Africa Working Group.
