Chair message for the new year

2 January 2023
Silvia Fernandez addresses the GAAMAC community to kick off 2023.

Dear colleagues, friends, and partners,

Happy New Year to all of you! I thank you once again for continuing your engagement at and support of GAAMAC throughout 2022.

For one more year, we have strengthened collaborations in order to increase support for atrocity prevention at the national level.

In 2022, we have also strived to give more visibility to our community’s work. We have built on our previous efforts and with our new website, we are now in a position of better showcasing our added value in the area of prevention.

I would like to thank all members of the Steering Group for their efforts in this regard, as well as the Chairs and members of the Regional Working Groups. I also express my gratitude to UNESCO, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights for their collaboration and important inputs to our work. Finally, I warmly thank all our members and partners for their active engagement, and welcome with great pleasure our five new partners.

GAAMAC’s Steering Group has set an ambitious outreach roadmap to increase States’ involvement to promote atrocity prevention as an upstream and permanent endeavour. With your help, we look forward to operationalizing this vision and to increasing political and financial support for our work this year.

Thank you!

Silvia Fernandez,
GAAMAC Chair
