“The energy at GAAMAC Global Meetings has been electrifying”
Savita Pawnday, Director of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect
GAAMAC Global Meetings are convened every two years, gathering hundreds of participants from over 50 States with a balanced representation based on the regions and gender. They play a significant role in providing guidance principles for national initiatives and policies. GAAMAC Global Meetings have generated Regional Initiatives/Working Groups, under the lead of its community members.
Further, GAAMAC Global Meetings have evolved from setting the foundation for strategic discussions on atrocity prevention at its first Global Meeting in 2014 (GAAMAC I), to identifying challenges and opportunities in 2016 (GAAMAC II), to assessing and discussing how to enable prevention in 2018 (GAAMAC III). GAAMAC IV was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. It took place in 2021 instead, focusing on addressing hate speech, discrimination and incitement.
